National Parenting Publications Awards announces winners of 2009 Parenting Resources Competition
BOSTON, June 1, 2009 – The National Parenting Publications Awards (NAPPA), a division of Dominion Enterprises, has announced the winners of its 2009 Parenting Resources competition. After evaluating hundreds of outstanding submissions, NAPPA selected 23 products to receive its esteemed NAPPA Gold award and 35 products for NAPPA Honors. These parenting products were chosen for their concept and design, safety, convenience and overall quality and usefulness.
Among the new trends in parenting products noted by this year’s NAPPA expert judges and family testers were: bisphenol A-free baby bottles and teethers; organic and natural fibers for clothes and fabric-covered products; and technological breakthroughs in “must have” gear such as car safety seats, child carriers and strollers. “The majority of products we saw this year showed how keenly designers are listening to parents’ concerns and what they want,” says NAPPA Manager Barbara Smith Decker. “For example, proper car seat installation and correct adjustment of a child’s safety harness are imperative to protect children while riding in a car. We see the results of intensive research and development among this year’s winners.” A few of the standouts among the 2009 NAPPA Gold-winning products are: Sleep Is for the Weak: The Best of the Mommy Bloggers offers quick-reading essays from popular Mommy blogs that provide “much needed comic relief” according to one of NAPPA’s tester moms. Symphony™ Featuring SureLatch™ All-in-One Car Seat converts from infant seat to forward-facing seat to booster; securely installs in five minutes or less; and adjusts from one child to another with a quick slide, click and a push-into-place. Safety 1st Little Men Working Potty is shaped like a truck and rewards kids with truck sounds when a “deposit” is made! Video Game Play and Addiction: A Guide for Parents explains the allure of games, the potential benefits, and guidelines to assess and address an overuse problem by child psychiatrist and avid gamer Dr. Kourosh Dini. Xip3™ is a smartly styled jacket for kids and adults that transforms into a backpack for easy carrying on family trips or zips into a pillow for a snooze on the ride home.
